EXHIBITIONAbstraction - figuration

For the 2022 edition of Monaco Art Week, Galerie Bastian presents a small group of significant works illustrating the evolution of abstraction and figuration in European post-war art. After 1945, major artists bestowed a new identity on figurative painting, whereas others found a new form of vivacity primarily based on their use of colour, leading to the creation of two different pictorial languages.

Abstract works will be juxtaposed with figurative pictures. This dialogue will focus on paintings of Jean Dubuffet (1901-1985) and Günther Förg (1952-2013), two remarkable artists searching for uncompromising, radical forms of expression.
