Where is the art market going?
A snapshot of trends and developments in the most recent ten years.

Giovanna Bertazzoni
Giovanna Bertazzoni, Chairman of Christie’s Europe, will present a critical overview of the latest developments shaping the global art market: the sustained shift toward Modern and Contemporary art, the growing financialization of transactions (through loans, guarantees and third-party backing) and the evolving strategies of estate and collection planning in Europe compared to the United States. The talk will also address the increasing importance of provenance research and restitution, the expanding role of private sales, and the renewed market focus on historically underrecognized segments, notably Surrealism and women artists.
Giovanna Bertazzoni is Chairman of Christie’s Europe, where she supports client development and major consignments across categories. She joined the company in 1998 as a specialist in Impressionist and Modern Art and became Global Head of the department in 2011, leading its international expansion, including the first Pablo Picasso offered in mainland China in 2013. She played a key role in landmark auctions such as the 2015 sale of Les femmes d’Alger (Version ‘O’), which set a Picasso world record, and the historic Paul Allen Collection sale in 2022. Bertazzoni holds degrees from the University of Pavia and the École Nationale du Patrimoine.
