History<\/strong>
\nSotheby’s opened its first office in Monaco in 1967. It was the first international auction house to hold a sale in the Principality, with the auction of the Red\u00e9 Rothschild collection in 1975. Since then, the Monte-Carlo office has been entrusted with many other prestigious private collections, including the estate of Mona Bismarck (1986), Karl Lagerfeld’s Memphis furniture (1991), Guy de Rothschild’s Ch\u00e2teau de Ferri\u00e8res collection (1994), the Count and Countess of Paris collection (1996) and the estate of iconic designer Karl Lagerfeld (2021).<\/p>\n

Born in Romania to a Jewish family originally from Bessarabia, Fred Feinsilber (1940\u20132021) settled in France after leaving Eastern Europe, and built a distinguished career as an industrial chemist before devoting himself entirely to the art of collecting: initially books, then tribal art and 20th-century modernism.<\/p>\n

The sale, which focuses on his passion for modern art and design, <\/strong>brings together works by major artists including Pablo Picasso, Wassily Kandinsky, Jean Dubuffet and Alberto Giacometti. At its heart stands an extraordinary group of twelve works by Victor Brauner, reflecting the special affinity Feinsilber felt for the Romanian-born Surrealist. Comprising more than 300 works in total, the collection offers a vivid portrait of a passionate and discerning collector\u2019s eye.<\/p>\n
